I am so excited that you will be in New Orleans. I am finally getting to attend ALA, so I plan to make the most of it (even though I will have a 2 month old along) We read What Happened to Goodbye together and can’t wait to see you. I hope you enjoy your time in New Orleans. The city is all about taking it easy, so don’t stress while you are here.

I really hope you come to Toronto ! (ONT.CANADA)
Me and my friends read all your books. As soon as “what happened to goodbye” came out, I bought it ! My favorite book of yours is “Just Listen”. It really relates to my life and I have read that book 3 times now ! Currently, I am reading “dreamland”. That book is so sad ! I cried !
I also just looked at the video about “what happened to goodbye”. I wish those boys were real ! But when I’m reading that book, I believe they are truly real and I put myself in the narrators story. But anyway, I love you and your books soo much so please consider coming to Toronto.

  29. Amy Claire Howard says:

    Dear Sarah Dessen,

Your blog says “I am Sarah and I write.”

Well, I am Amy Claire and I don’t write. In fact, I never write creepy fan mail, but I thought I would. Mostly because I can.

Here’s a little about me. I am Amy Claire and I read. I am from Houston and currently live in Austin. My sister first introduced me to you in your masterpiece, The Truth About Forever. We are both runners and absolutely loved it. Plus, she lived in Durham when she went to school so we obviously feel a connection to you. Duh.

As luck would have it, I was chilling in a bookstore yesterday and saw a poster saying What Happened to Goodbye had just been released in paperback. Wahoo! That’s what I like to see. Then, I kept reading and saw that you would be signing your book at that book store in just a few weeks. Yep. That’s right. I was in Book People in Austin. Naturally, like any teenage girl, I got super excited and started making mental plans to come back to the bookstore on April 23 at 7 pm. Basically because you are my hero.

Then, I remembered that of course, I have plans. See, I am involved with Young Life at the University of Texas and recently got assigned to be a leader at a junior high school in the Austin area. Which is great. and awesome. and I am so excited. Once placed at a school, there are weekly hang outs called “club.” Or at least there are supposed to be weekly hang outs. However, Young life is new to my school and after being around for a whole school year, we have yet to have “club.” But now, after much prayer and planning, we will be hosting our first ever club on, you guessed it, Tuesday April 23 at 7 pm. Which is kind of a big deal.

So while you will be a mere 15 minute walk from where I live. I will not be able to meet you. Which makes me sad. But there sacrifices you make when you want to love people God has called you to love.

Once I saw the scheduling conflict, I got online to see if you will be in Houston at any time I will be in Houston. As luck would have it you will be with The Moon and More. Naturally I will be there.

    Yay!

All this to say, I really wish I could be at both events. But I can’t . I also really wish that I could meet you, have coffee, and talk with you. You free Tuesday April 22 around 4? or 5? or 9? I am kind of kidding, but not really. But I guess, what I really want is for you to write a book about me. Not really me. Just use my name. Which is Amy Claire. It is a double first name. I guess it is a southern thing( which coincidentally would make a great book title–just think about it)

Anyway, I hope you have a great night. And I hope you enjoy your visits to the great state of Texas.
