New Along for the Ride cover!

So excited to reveal the last of this GREAT two weeks of new paperback covers! This one’s for ALONG FOR THE RIDE: you can check it out over at The Story Siren.

I had a great birthday and getting to share all of these with you made it that much better. Seriously! Also a highlight: yesterday my publisher sent me cupcakes from Sugarland bakery here in Chapel Hill:

My daughter immediately laid claim to the red velvet one. I was like, “It’s MY birthday!” Petulant like I was the four year old. Don’t mess with my cupcakes!

(In the end, we split it. Because I am an adult. Or try to be.)

Have a a great day, everyone!

I am sooo glad that I have the original cover for ‘Along for the Ride.’ The whole point of the cover is Auden and Eli…..Auden has black hair, right? That girl has blonde…..-_- Also, I liked all of the original covers best! Why change them?? Lock and Key, Along for the Ride, and What happened to Goodbye should not change….at ALL! This sucks:(

  2. Mckenna says:

…Um….Why? I loved the original!? :D It had that…..OHHH MUST READ, EFFECT…This…this is just to plain…Even though Sarah’s name is on it, it doesn’t seem like a Sarah Dessen book. At all. :( Must go in a little corner now cry…………….UGH

  3. Elizebeth says:

I know change is gooooood! But, Sarah, your covers for all of your books were just…YOU! :) Now…Idk…..They just seem out of place. IT’s good to change…But to me Sarah Dessen’s books are the ones with the faceless girl. You only see her lower torso…Because she is hiding something. Keeping something. That is the definition of Sarah’s books to me. NOt some cheesy girl lying on her bed with head phones in…Or some girl on a bike. :) Not hating, just….Disappointed. All I know is, is that I am keeping my books(with the original covers) :D

  4. morgan says:

I love the old covers for your books because that’s what they looked like when I first read them (I bought Keeping the Moon with the blue sunglasses cover), but I think the new ones all look really great too!

  5. Valeria Prosperi says:

I like all the new covers. I think change is important in order for something to evolve. But I do think that this one is a little strange. Auden’s hair is black, and that girl is a little different from the definition of Auden.
I do like it. If I hadn’t read it, I definetly would. The covers are all very pretty and soft and summer feeling.

Glad you had an amazing birthday, don’t let those comments bring you down, your books are amazing and they will always be.

    Have a nice day!
PS: What Happened To Goodbye isn’t getting a cover make over? Is it because it’s new still?

  6. Ashley says:

Well, I personally love all of the covers, old and new. The new covers will draw in more people to pick up the books, and read them. They’re bright, and colorful. And for me personally, that’s what draws me in. The original Along For The Ride cover was my favorite, but I love this.

  7. Valeria Prosperi says:

I’ll say that I also like the colors used very much! It’ a very beautiful shade and Is really chic<3

  8. Devyn Lea says:

I support you in whatever you do but I must say, I really like the older covers. Not the very old ones but the more recent ones. Why change what’s good? So far I don’t like the new covers. :( But that doesn’t change what is in the inside the books!

  9. Abbey says:

Geez, everyone’s being really negative! I like the new covers. I think they appeal to the newer generation of YA readers maybe more than the classic covers. I’ve liked some of the newer covers better, and some of the older covers better. Truth is, I already have all your books, so it doesn’t really affect me. Although I do need a new copy of This Lullaby. But I think they look great and I’m excited for the new readers that will discover the brand new, shiny covers. :)

  10. Shira says:

Do NOT like this one. I totally agree with Elizebeth- the point is for her to be faceless. If I was picking up this book or Just Listen for the first time, my impression of the protagonist would be completely different. I think this was a major mistake (unlike Lock and Key, or The Truth About Forever, which look fresh and modern but still within the SD style, leaving much to the imagination of the reader) and was pretty sad to see the change. And call me a prude, but I am not thrilled with all the skin displayed either.

Nice cover, and I really want that bike too! But is it just me or is being able to see the girls face slighty ruin it? Hmm, still love all the other covers though :)

  12. Heather says:

All the covers make me want to run around in my backyard in bare feet with my best friends with sparklers. haha They remind me of summer! :) The inside of the books are what make them, anyway, so changed covers, or old ones, I’m still always going to be buying Sarah Dessen books! No one writes better books. No. One.

  13. Jessica says:

Hey Sarah! Happy birthday! Hope you had an awesome day. Not sure if you’ll read my comment but I guess I’ll just say how I feel. Honestly, it doesn’t matter what the cover looks like. They’re still YOUR books. And that’s all that really matters to me. Yes, I do love the cover for Keeping the Moon and This Lullaby, but I won’t mine the change if it means people will continue to buy your books.

Maybe the only comment I would say about this book cover is that it’s kind of funny that the girl is wearing Abercrombie shorts. Yes, I’m that obsessed with juniors clothing that I can recognize the butt pocket, but I would never really think of the main character from Along for the Ride to wear clothing from a store like Abercrombie. It really doesn’t matter, but it was simply an observation I made. Don’t worry about what other people are saying. They’re just scared of change the same way some of your own characters are :)

I love you so much, and I can’t wait to read your next novel. You’re a huge inspiration for me. And I saw someone ask previously, whether your new book that will be published is going to be in the new style. I’m curious about that too. I would imagine it would be. Anyway, hope you’re having a great day! :D

  14. Adriana says:

I hate it. It does not make sence. Auden like to wear jeans & shirts. Not bikinis.

  15. paige says:

No new cover for what happened to goodbye?

  16. Shannon says:

No new cover for “What Happened to Goodbye”? :(

  17. Jenny says:

Along for the Ride is my favorite of your books. I loved the original cover. This one is cute though too. My only thought is, why would you ever mention The Story Siren after she was caught & admitted to plagiarizing. Not a good marketing move really.

  18. Melissa says:

I actually really love this cover! I’m definitely more of a fan of the old ones but these have all been great too. Do the new covers mean that “What Happened to Goodbye” will be coming out in paperback soon? I’ve been dying for a paperback copy.

Cupcakes look delicious! Glad you had such an awesome birthday!

  19. Yeah, not visiting The Story Siren ever again but the cover looks pretty – saw it in Sarahland a little while ago.

    Happy birthday! :D

Also, that’s an awesome bike though I have never met anyone who actually pedals shoeless, ’cause it hurts!

  20. Tiffany says:

I think I’m in the minority who actually likes the new covers BETTER than the old covers! The colors just pop and I love it. My favorite new covers are the ones for That Summer, Keeping the Moon, The Truth About Forever, and Just Listen. :)

  21. Emily says:

Wait that’s all the new covers but we still haven’t seen This Lulluby and Lock and Key and What Happened to Goodbye!!!!!!!!

  22. Shane says:

I’m sooo glad i already have most of the books because i love the old covers way better!! they should never have changed them, everyone like the old covers!

  23. JG says:

Sarah, I just finished reading this book (Along for the Ride) about 10 minutes ago. When I finished, I instantly felt the need to post on your blog and tell you how great it was. Unexpectedly, I also saw the new cover for Along for the Ride and fell in love with its North Carolina beach feel and it’s color scheme. Reading your books always lightens my mood and I always want them to never end (plus go to college at Chapel Hill.) I always finish your books thinking ‘Yup, this was the best one,’ yet the next book I read I always think the same thing.

Keep up with the writing! I can’t wait until May2013!

  24. Jenna says:

The new covers are nice, but I still favor the other ones. They stand out more to me. The new ones seem… well, a bit boring.

  25. airhead says:

I kind of like this cover, but I just like the old one way more. The same with Lock and Key – while the new cover isn’t bad or anything, I just feel like the old cover (the blue one with the water) just… fit better story wise and stuff (and it was really pretty….)

But who knows, maybe the new type of cover will really suit the new book and we’ll all love it

  26. Anonymous says:

I can’t help but notice her shorts are from Abercrombie….it’s botherine me

  27. Katie says:

Will always remain a faithful fan, but I really do not care for the new covers. The old covers captured the essence of the story and main character, while the new ones come across as a bit cheesy. It makes the books appear a little less special; they have become commercial and juvenile. :/ It’s not always about pleasing a certain crowd..

  28. Emily says:

That’s my favorite cover, or maybe Just Listen- love them all! :D

  29. Chloe says:

I hope that any new books you write will still have covers in the same style as the old ones! I’m very OCD about my books and if all of the covers change like this style I may have a breakdown! I LOVE your books and read them if I need to relax or just read a very dark book. PLEASE have books published with the old style covers too!

  30. Allison says:

    Hi there,

I just had to post and say that I just finished reading Along for the Ride 2 days ago and absolutely LOVED IT! I also loved the fact that it mostly took place in a “beach town” setting thus making it a great read for the summer time especially. It occurred to me that it would be AWESOME if you wrote a sequel to it!! I hope you would consider doing that! Thanks for writing such a great book!

  31. sarah says:

hey my name is sarah too but i dont write books

  32. Maya says:

Well i like all the covers, old and new. I love you sarah. dont let the comments bring you down!

  33. Kurt Kevin Regis says:

I love the new covers. I’m planning to collect all the Dessen covers.
