The Friday Five! (in pictures)

1. Okay, so this is a SHORT five and a visual one because I’m still on vacation with my family and my husband says I’ve been on the computer enough already. Which I guess is true. Unplugging is harder than it seems. It seems. Anyway. It’s lovely here:

2. Just as good as the weather (if not better, sometimes, but you need a rainy day now and then so you can go bowling and to the bookstore, right?) is the food. On  Wednesday I indulged one of my biggest cravings and had a shrimpburger from the Big Oak Drive-In, with onion rings. Oh.my.goodness. So wonderful.

3. Also good pickings: the shells. I am That Person, the one who brings home entire ziplock bags of shells after each vacation. I love, love picking them up, then storing them in a big glass bowl on my desk to get me through the dark, dim days of February. Thanks to some big storms right when we got here, we’ve had a lot to chose from:

4. Now that I’ve been here almost a week, I’m totally in beach mode. Not wearing my watch or makeup, blow dryer back in suitcase, ignored, basically barefoot unless I absolutely must wear shoes. My daughter shifts into her own mode, but hers is all about The Hair. It goes straight-on Shirley Temple. Love it, but don’t try to brush it. Disaster.

5. Finally: did I mention the FOOD? Just when you get sick of shrimp and fish, there’s Michelangelo’s Pizza and Subs, which offers pretty much the biggest (and best) slice of supreme pizza ever. I ate this for lunch yesterday and was full until…well, I’m actually still full. Worth it, though.

Oops, I think it’s time to go down to the water again. That would be the THIRD time since we got up at 6am. It’s 12:30 now. We pack a lot in a day here! (And at home, actually. Related: I really, really need a nap.)

Have a good weekend, everyone!

I hope you’re having a wonderful vacation, Sarah! I’m from Boston,so I love being able to go to the beach in the summer. I seriously can’t imagine how some people live in the summer if they don’t live near the coast. The feel of sand between my toes, and the smell of salt water and seafood is very relaxing to a New England gal (*sigh). The food you’ve been eating is making me hungry, and Sasha’s hair is gorgeous. Her hair might look crazy when brushed, but she should be grateful for her locks. My hair can get curly like hers, and a lot of people can’t manage to get one sucessful curl when they use an iron.

Wow! Your vacation sounds wonderful! I never get the chance to be on the beach and it sounds amazing! And I wonder how you can manage your daughter’s hair when its not unruly! Well hope you taste other great foods there and have a great time!

I keep shells on my desk too! I love summer, hate the cold. Only do the shells you keep on your desk ever smell like low tide? They do for me. I have to keep a lid on the jar or my entire room will smell like shells.

Hah , you say you need a rainy day every now and then, I’m in Ireland we have one nearly every day.
I like the idea of the shells.
Omg I love the curly hair.

how could you tolerate rain every now and then.

Try Lush cosmetics for your daughter’s hair. They have a coconut solid shampoo that is fantastic for curly wurly locks! And a solid conditioner called Jungle specifically for jungle like manes. My nieces both have curls just like hers and these seem to always do the trick to tame their crazy locks!

Those vacations look amazing. I live right in front of the beach, even though is one that is contaminated and shouldn’t be used. and I’m from Venezuela, so we don’t have winter, fall, spring. It’s pretty much a season of sun and a season of rain, but it’s amazing! Watching the sun going down is one of the best things in the world. My instagram is ValeriaProsperi, if you want to you could check out the sunsets, they’re amazing!

I hope you have wonderful vacations, enjoy a lot, and let your daughter’s hair be! Or if it is necessary, you can always tame in front with a headband. Always useful. Let the rest be wild.

    Have a nice day!

  16. Jaime says:

You seem to have the most beautiful vacation spot! Also you’re so motivated to do relaxing things, or at least it comes across that way. I can’t even muster half the motivation you exude for a normal day. *le sigh* I’d assume that I need a vacation, but I’d probably just sit at home and play video games instead of go out and actually DO anything.

My daughter would DIE for a beach with shells like that! We have them here in Oregon, but not as abundantly.
And your daughter’s hair is lovely :)
