[...] Let’s start off with a short biography on Sarah Dessen. Sarah Dessen was born in Illinois in 1970. However, she grew up in a small town in North Caroline called Chapel Hill. She also went to college there at the UNC- Chapel Hill, graduating with top honors in Creative Writing. Because she wanted to stay in touch with her roots, she still resides in North Carolina. After graduating college, she didn’t get a fancy job like one may expect. She worked as a waitress in a Mexican restaurant. It was here that she started her writing career. She published her first book, That Summer, soon after graduating and was offered a teaching job a year later. She published her second novel with Orchard Books, realizing that writing for teens is what she did best. Currently, she lives with her husband, her daughter, and her two dogs.
