Okay. I have GOT to do some Christmas shopping today. No excuses. No whining. Just do it.

(I still feel entirely uninspired. Why is that?)

A few minutes ago I saw this thing on my main AOL screen: 25 Presents Everyone Wants, it said. Well, of course I was curious. I mean, how often do you get that kind of consensus: EVERYONE wants these gifts! Hooray! So I clicked on it. According to AOL, these are the things we all want for under twenty five bucks:

a smores maker (which looks kind of like a fondue pot, but not really)
Spider Man 2 DVD
The Da Vinci Code
Flannel pajamas
Braun electric shaver

Huh. I don’t know what I was expecting, exactly, but an electric shaver wasn’t one of them. And, yes, smores are great, but it seems like a lot of effort to have to get out a specific apparatus to make them. And make them inside? Isn’t that kind of defeating the purpose? As far as DVDs, I agree, they are great gifts, but not everyone is into Spider Man. And while I’ve heard a lot of good things about The Da Vinci Code, I can’t see EVERYONE loving it. Which leaves us with flannel pajamas, and I am not ABOUT to say anything bad about pajamas. So maybe that’s what everyone will get from me this year. We’ll see.

The real point, though, is that there isn’t just one thing for everyone. That’s what makes gift buying fun, finding that one right thing for that one specific person. I’ll admit I tend to obsess a little about gifts (oh, please, I obsess about everything) but I am famous for putting entirely too much thought into the gifts I buy. I want the person to open it up, and gasp, and be just so happy, and use it every single day. I aim high. But the truth is, what really matters is that time you think of the person, the effort you put into wanting to make them happy, not whatever is in the box, in the end. Right? Right.

So today, I’ll motivate. Eventually. I think I just need to push myself out the door and into the car. Drive to the mall, take a deep breath, and go in. Then, I think, my love of shopping will kick in: I’ll hear the music, see the Sale signs, and everything will just click together. Lead me to the pajamas!

have a good day everyone…..
