Late entry today, as I am (trying) to be productive. So far, so good, as I’ve spent most of the morning on the phone, returning a bunch of WAY overdue calls. There is a certain satisfaction to ticking things off of a To Do list, one by one. Even if you’re having to add things to the bottom just as quickly. Oh, well.
I lasted for about half of the Golden Globes last night, long enough to see Reese Witherspoon and Hugh Laurie win, and to shake my fist at the screen when Jeremy Piven didn’t win for Entourage. When is he going to catch a break? I mean, honestly. The man was up against Paul Newman. Come on! Next year, Jeremy. It has to be. I liked seeing all the gowns, and the celebs mingling during the commercial breaks, although when the tribute to Anthony Hopkins started up I tuned out, knowing things were about to slow down, big time. All in all, enjoyable. Although now, because of the one-two punch of Cousins and the Globes, I have to let my husband watch whatever he wants for the forseeable future. Which means I’ll be catching a lot of CSI, The Dog Whisperer, and various car shows. Lucky me!
On a totally unrelated note, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about macaroni and cheese. (Don’t look at me like that: you know you think about it too, sometimes.) The other day, when my husband was sick, he asked for mac and cheese, so I headed out to the store to get some. Once there, though, I realized there are SO many different kinds: gone are the days when there was the blue Kraft box and nothing else. Now, we have the blue box, the Easy Mac, Annie’s Naturals, and the Velveeta variety, plus the various kinds you can buy frozen, like Boston Market and Stouffers.
Personally, I consider myself an m&c expert: I love it that much. My very favorite is probably the kind from Bullock’s Barbecue in Durham, which is a lot like the Stouffer’s brand, which is my second favorite. I have a soft spot for the Kraft box, just for nostalgia’s sake, and the Velveeta always tasted too thick for my liking. Annie’s has the Good For You thing going for it, but the sauce isn’t anything to write home about. Still, no matter what the brand, you can’t beat m&c for pure comfort food mojo. In the end, I went with the Stouffer’s, and bought an extra, which is now in my freezer in a sort of In Case of Emergency way. You know, for when I get a bad review, or really bad PMS, or just feel like the world is against me. Pop it out, into the microwave, and fifteen minutes later…..well, you know. Right?
