Don’t you just love it when the Fourth of July lands mid-week, so you’re practically required to take a five day weekend? Yeah. Me too. In fact, I’m so relaxed that I don’t think I can write any kind of cohesive entry, so instead I’ll just share a few random thoughts on this, the eve of Independence Day:
*My husband usually makes the coffee. Today, he did not, and so I learned this: I can’t make decent coffee. I think I put too many grounds in, or not enough water, or both. Yech. But I’m still drinking it. What does that say about me? I think it’s called desperate. But whatever.
*Right now, as I write this, the “Donna Martin Graduates!” episode of 90210 is playing in the other room. What more can you ask for on a Friday morning? In related news, last night I totally caught up on my Tivo stuff, watching the newest My Life on the D-List, Entourage (which I am loving this season) a couple of other 9ers and—and believe it or not, this is the embarrassing one—My Fair Brady: We’re Getting Married. I know, I know. For penance, I will force myself to drink more of this awful coffee.
*I woke up this morning to a huge Tour Scandal. There goes the pool! If you don’t follow cycling, you probably don’t care, but trust me: this is BIG.
*Japanese beetles have invaded my zinnias, which I planted in pots, because otherwise the deer would eat them the instant they sprouted. I’m telling you, this is extreme gardening. It is also WAR. I’m going out for some spray this afternoon. Bring it on, Beetles! (I almost wrote Beatles. Which would be a different battle altogether.)
*I am just about to make another batch of cookies. I can’t stop. Hopefully I can find someone to give them away to, or else none of my clothes will fit by August. But what is the Fourth about if not eating, and eating a lot?
*I found out Wednesday that Just Listen has now been on the NYT Bestseller List for twelve straight weeks. Insanity. The mind boggles. Seriously: I’m boggled. (And very grateful, beyond words grateful.)
*The Pussycat Dolls were on GMA this morning. This group confuses me. Are they a burlesque act? Or a pop group? Or both? Someone please explain.
*On a personal note, I want to wish my cousin Benjamin the best of luck as he begins this, the next (exciting!) phase of his professional life. You go, Ben!
*Movies I want to see: The Devil Wears Prada, The Break Up (is it still even in theatres?) and Prairie Home Companion. Clearly, I need to stop baking cookies and get out of the house. I can’t watch EVERYTHING on Netflix, can I? (Actually…I kind of think you can. But it’s not necessarily a good thing.)
I could go on and on, I’m sure. But the holiday weekend has officially started, so I need to begin….holiday-ing. (I guess the grammar is the first to go.) I wish you all a happy and fun weekend. If you’re traveling—especially on Northwest Airlines!—I hope you get to your destination safely and promptly, and that wherever you are, there are fireworks, and that they are big and bright and wonderful. Sit back, and enjoy. It’s summer!
