I know I said I’d never get a tattoo because I was too much of a wimp, but….
….this one I couldn’t resist.
Okay, okay, so it’s a fake. (Breathe, Mom. Breathe!) I found this great little book of tattoos for librarians and book lovers at a local store yesterday, and they are so awesome. Probably a better thing for April Fool’s than Halloween, but considering I haven’t dressed up in years, this is about as close as I’ll get. I think that for the last few years I’ve felt like I’m too old to go out myself, and didn’t have kids yet to take them around. Sasha is a bit too small to dress up—although I have a I WANT CANDY onesie she’ll be sporting today—but next year, I’ll definitely have to get her in a costume. For now, though, I’ll enjoy my fake tattoo, at least until it washes off.
I bet those librarian tattoos were a big hit at the last ALA convention: if not, they will be at the next one. I especially like the Dewey Decimal System one. I remember the last ALA I went to, in 2006 in New Orleans. I was out with a bunch of people from my publishing house, all women, on Bourbon Street. We’d been greeted like crazy everywhere we went, because the ALA was the first convention to come back to New Orleans after Katrina, so there were WELCOME LIBRARIANS signs everywhere. As we walked through this bar, a group of guys standing together all hollered out to us in that drunken, raucous kind of way. When we ignored them, they went further, shouting stuff like, “Hey, librarians! I need a lesson on the Dewey Decimal system!” Which was creative, you must admit, if not futile.
Anyway. I hope you all have a very happy, safe Halloween. BOO!
