I’m back!

And…exhausted. We left my parents’ house in Cape Cod at 9 this morning, and rolled into our own driveway around 5pm. WHEW! But it was so worth it. Caught up with the family, introduced the baby to all these traditions—eating sand on our family beach, sitting in a hammock, clam chowder—and learned that vacationing with a baby is not quite the same as vacationing without one. Those long, lazy days of napping, book reading, and more napping and book reading? Not really within the realm of possibility anymore. But that’s okay. We had a blast anyway. Even if I am so tired now that I keep misspelling things and almost don’t have the energy to correct myself. Almost.

I’ll be back in full force on Monday, but in the interim, a few highlights of the last week, by the numbers:

Flights with baby while she was screaming: 1
Flights with baby while she was sleeping: 1 (same flight, actually)
Cups of clam chowder consumed: at least 6. Maybe 7.
Hours spent arguing with car rental company about busted up car they rented us, which had wipers that barely worked, as we discovered during a serious downpour: at least 3
Number of people at said company (it rhymes with Nifty) who I had to talk to who were no help whatsoever: 6
Number of nasty emails it took for them to finally void our agreement and cancel all charges: 1 (Yay for venting online!)
Bugbites acquired: too numerous to count
Pairs of new Havianas flip flops purchased: 2
Number of hours of TV watched in week we were gone: 2 (all episodes of The Office, watched on a laptop. No, I am not kidding. You’re shocked, aren’t you?)
Number of hours spent online: less than 1 (also not kidding!)
Books read: 1 (Curtis Sittenfeld’s newest, due out in September, called American Wife. I could NOT put it down and can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks about it.)
Number of times I cooked dinner while gone: 0 (yep, you read that right)
Days I consumed eggs, pancakes AND bacon at the Moonakis Cafe, the best breakfast place ever: three
How long it took for me to miss my cousins, once we were gone: about ten minutes.

So there you have it. At least, sort of. Honestly, it’s all I am capable of right now. Tomorrow: re-entry, bills, catching up on celeb gossip. Now: sleep. No. I’m not kidding!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
