Well, here we are at Monday, after a weekend of rain (courtesy of Tropical Storm Hannah) and cupcakes (courtesy of yet ANOTHER birthday get together for Sasha). We had so much rain parts of our road flooded, and the backyard of my parents’ house was like a lake. I was over there, trying to hook up another VCR to my mom’s TV—I was not successful, I think because her TV is ancient—and every once in awhile there’d be this big BOOM! I’d stick my head out of the bedroom, my dad out of his office, and we’d both head outside to see what kind of branch had hit the house. Meanwhile, there’s ALL this water in the backyard (my dad was referring to it as high tide) so much so that I actually saw people slowing down and taking pictures of it. That’s what happens when you live in the flood plain. On the flip side, I think we MAY be past the drought. So that’s good.
In other news, I only saw a BIT of the VMAs last night, so I don’t feel like I can comment other than to say 1) Britney looks good, although I guess I expected more from her opening? and 2) I am so officially old that I didn’t know who half the people were as they showed up on the pre-show. Forget the Jonai: I don’t know my Too Short from my T-Pain from my….oh, you get the idea. Is there an officially moment when I just cave altogether and admit that yes, it’s time to just watch VH1? If so, I think that time is coming. Or already past.
Finally, a big thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm about the new book. It was kind of unexpected, as I didn’t plan to have anything out until 2010, keeping with my a-book-every-two-years thing, but then I just had this good idea, and a couple of hours a few days a week thanks to my amazing babysitters, and it just kind of…happened. Which is a wonderful thing, especially since the writing of the last few books was SO hard and taxing. Who knew being crazy busy would actually make me MORE productive? Not me. But it is yet another thing to thank Sasha for, I guess. Anyway, I’ll have lots more to tell you about it all in the coming weeks, including a title, and a cover, and all that fun stuff. Plus it looks like I will be doing more touring this time than for Lock and Key, so hopefully I’ll be coming to a city near you. Stay tuned!
