Yes, I am am technically on vacation and promised myself I’d take a break from blogging. But I saw in the comments—yes, I read them, every single one—that there was some question about what, exactly, is a shrimpburger. And I just HAD to respond. Basically, it’s fried shrimp, cole slaw, cocktail and tartar sauce on a hamburger bun. Preferably served with onion rings. My favorites are from the Big Oak Drive-In in Salter Path, NC:

We’re having a lovely time here, catching up with cousins and friends, taking sunset walks on the beach, cooking big meals. It still feels like summer but will be October by the time we head home. I have been sucked into Dancing with the Stars, thanks to friends here who love it, and in turn am turning them onto Friday Night Lights. Back in the real world, Along for the Ride finally ended its long run in the NYT list, and I just want to thank you all again for all the support and kind words over this long, crazy summer. I’m proud of the book and what it’s done, and I think of Auden often as I walk along the surf. Is that weird? Maybe. But it’s true.
