Okay, so last night I’m sitting on the couch, reading US Weekly, kicking back, and I start flipping channels, finally landing on MTV and Making the Video. It’s the very end of the show, so they’re announcing right at that second the World Premiere or whatever of Christina Aguilera’s new video.

Okay, so maybe I’m a bit of a prude. But people: there’s just no going back from this. If you’ve seen it, you know what I mean. It’s like, once you’ve showed/done/been everything on the far side of skanky, you can’t expect to be taken seriously. You just can’t.

I picked up the phone and called my best friend, who, coincidence of coincidences, was watching the show too. (We have a bit of a mind meld, always have.) I was trying to be open minded, really. Even with the butt shot at the very beginning. But by the time she was writhing in the water with all the dancers and flashing her crotch (albeit covered, just barely) she’d lost me. Totally.

On MTV.com, they’re taking a poll about whether Christina has “jumped the shark.” This term is in reference to the moment when a TV show/celebrity begins the downhill slide (check out more examples here.) The name comes from the episode of Happy Days—if you’re old enough to remember—when Fonzie attempted to jump a shark on waterskis.

I’m not trying to be negative, especially so early on a Monday morning. But I don’t know…it upset me.

I think I’ve just confirmed, once and for all, my shallow existence….

have a good day.
