You know how sometimes you’ll read a book and it will really change how you see certain things? Or even the world?
I just finished Random Family and I have to say it pretty much blew me away. It’s the kind of book I kept coming home early just to read: I lost myself in the stories of these people. It’s nonfiction, all about two families of kids who grow up in the Bronx, this honest, often heartbreaking account of these women struggling to lift their children out of a life of poverty and violence, with often mixed results. Man. I can’t do it justice, explaining: I just really thought it was amazing. Amazing.
In other news, the audiobooks for That Summer and Someone Like You arrived in the mail yesterday. The irony is that I don’t have a tape player in my car, so I can’t listen to them unless I want to just sit on the couch and do so, which is sort of weird. But I’m so curious to see what they sound like in someone else’s voice. It’s going to be surreal, I think. Surreal, but nice. (I’ve been watching Notting Hill…can you tell?)
have a good day everyone!
