Gregory Peck has died. And yes, he was an actor playing a part, but for me he will always be Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird, and so I am so very sad at this loss. Very sad.
(You know, last week Atticus was picked by AFI was best hero from a movie: Hannibal Lecter was best villian.)
Today I am dinking around doing nothing of interest, which makes it hard to come up with something for a journal entry. I could talk about the weather, which is being entirely strange, but I feel like that’s been a current theme lately so I’ll avoid it. I could talk about what I watched on TV last night, except it was all reruns, also sort of boring.
So maybe I’ll just take this opportunity to answers some Recently Asked Questions.
Number one: am I working on another book?
Yes and no. I have a draft finished, which I labored and agonized over for most of the fall and spring. So the first phase is over, the hardest part, the writing. But it will take another year, at the least, to revise and get it ready to be published. So there is a draft done, but a Book won’t turn up in stores until next summer at the very earliest. As far as what it’s about, I’m sorry but I’m famously tight-lipped about stuff like that. I can’t keep a lot of secrets, but that sort of thing I guard hard.
Number two: is How To Deal a new book by me?
Bear with me if you read this journal regularly and know the answer to this question, but I’m going to go ahead and answer it again, since it keeps coming up. How to Deal is a re-packaging of That Summer and Someone Like You, my first two books, which were the basis for the movie How To Deal. So it is not a new book. However, if you haven’t read those two books, it’s a nice way to get them both at a reduced price. So there you have it.
Number three: Can I help you with your book report/project for English class?
I really can’t. Believe me, you don’t want me to. I am the worst at summing up any of the themes of my books, I just go on and on and on. (Also a reason I don’t bother to explain what drafts are about: you’d be bored out of your mind, trust me.) I’m flattered that people chose to do stuff on me and the books for school projects, but everything I’d tell you is on my website anyway, so that’s the best place to look for it.
Number four: Will there be a sequel to any of the books?
While the demand is highly flattering—highly—I’d have to say no, mostly because I really feel that I’ve covered the stories of my characters as best I could in the original novel, and it would hard to go back into that world and do anything else. I’m more interested in new stories, new people, although Dexter or Remy may pop up in other books in small roles, as Scarlett did in This Lullaby, as a thank you to everyone who has asked this question.
Number five: What’s Mandy Moore really like?
I met her briefly, talked to her twice, also briefly. She is very beautiful, very tall, and seems just like a regular, down to earth, nice person. You would like her. A lot.
So there you have it. Your Questions Answered! (I feel so productive. I think I’ll go get back in bed and read now.)
have a good day everyone!
