What does it mean when all day long you’ve looked forward to leaving early, but then, when it’s all said and done, you look at the clock and you’re actually in your office LATER than normal?
Not good. That’s what it means.
Speaking of school, however, I want to give a little plug to my friend (and former student) Courtney Jones, who has this week seen one of her stories published in a Real Live Book. An anthology, in fact: Best New American Voices 2004, which chooses the best stories from graduate writing programs. Her story is called “Irregularities,” and it’s fantastic. And I am SO PROUD. I remember when Doris Betts used to tell us that anytime one of her students achieved anything she happily took full credit, and that’s what I’m doing now. Courtney was in my intro and intermediate class, and now she’s my friend (as well as our trusted dog/housesitter). You go!
As for me, I DO finally want to get out of here. It’s like some gravitational force is just holding me here, forcing me into my seat, and I’m powerless to stop it.
(Okay, maybe it’s not that bad. Maybe, I just need to get up, and go. Yes. That’s what I’ll do.)
have a good day everyone…..
