I’m making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner tonight, my first time ever making meatballs. I keep hearing the song in my head: “One meatball…..”

(You may be quizzical, but my cousins will now have that stuck in their heads all night long. You’re welcome!)

Speaking of songs, my obsession with ITunes continues. I know a lot of people questioned why I was so excited when I had to pay for music, when there are so many free sites. Well, it’s several things. First, I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about viruses and porn and the like from Kazaa and other places. But the bigger issue is my conscience. I’ve always felt sort of bad downloading music for free…I know the record companies charge way too much for CDs, and all that, but just because you think something’s too expensive doesn’t mean you should just take it and not pay anything. I don’t know, it’s a weird thing, and a topic I certainly don’t want to try to take on here. I just know I wouldn’t like it if someone took one of my books and printed out free copies for thousands, millions of people. It would bug me. So with ITunes, I pay my 99 cents, no guilt, everyone’s happy. So that’s my story.

What I really want to do now on ITunes is compile the perfect cheesy music mix CD. When I was in high school, I listened to a lot of classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Boston, the Dead, etc) but sometimes at night, when me and Bianca were on the phone together, we’d both put on 96 Lite FM, which played all the cheesy, adult contemporary stuff, and listen to that. You know the stuff I’m talking about (or maybe, if you were born after 1985 or so, you probably don’t): songs like “Cats in the Cradle,” “At Seventeen,” “Same Old Lang Syne,” those really drama-heavy Barbra Streisand-Neil Diamond duets.

(I can hear the collective groan from you all, I really can.)

I know it’s horrifyingly shameful to admit this—and Bianca is probably going to rage at me for implicating her, as well—but we all know that there are times when you are alone, in the car or at home, and one of those kinds of songs comes on and you listen to it. And you know the words. Admit it!

So if anyone has suggestions for my ultimate mellow Lite 96 homage mix CD, please, feel free to pass them along. Now, I’m off to make meatballs…

have a good evening everyone!
