Happy Friday. Finally!
Last night I found myself watching this movie called Beautiful Girls, which TiVo had recorded for me. Yet more proof that TiVo knows me SO well, because as I watched the movie I found myself liking even more than the first time I saw it, which was years ago. Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, Natalie Portman, Uma Thurman….it’s just really, really good. Isn’t that the best, when you rediscover a movie after having forgotten about it? I love that. In fact, I think I’m going to add it to the mini film festival I’m planning in anticipation of my high school reunion: so far I’ve got Grosse Pointe Blank (Best.Reunion.Movie.Ever.), Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, and Beautiful Girls. If you can think of any others, let me know. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few good ones.
The other thing that I’m loving these days is the the Ellen show . I’ve mentioned how much I like it here before, but my new favorite thing is right after the monologue, when she walks over to the set: every day, she busts out this total dance moment, thirty seconds or so or her just shaking her booty, on television, for the entire world. It is so freaking awesome. When I’m stressed or in a mood, this for some reason just makes my day. If you haven’t seen her do it yet, you should. It’s the greatest. Really. It reminds me of when I worked at the Burrito, and we had this thing called the Nine O’Clock Dance that we did on really busy Friday nights. We closed at ten, but once you got to nine you finally saw *some* light at the end of the tunnel, so we’d group everyone together in the wait station and have a spontaneous dancing moment to hold us over until closing. Good times.
I don’t miss being a waitress. But there are certain moments when I get nostalgic for the friends I had then. And for free chips and salsa. And, of course, the nine o’clock dance. Can’t really organize something like that in the English Department. I mean, you *could* I guess. But would you want to? Hmmm.
have a good day everyone!
