My husband was out last night, which meant I had the entire house to myself to watch all the bad television I wanted. And henceforth, a recap:

First, I watched the Oprah with the Sex and the City gals, and it only reinforced my notion that I want to hang out with SJP really, really badly. She was cute and self-effacing and funny and REAL. Loved her. The only downside was that we didn’t hear all that much from all the other women, but it was only an hour and they had cute send offs from Big and Steve and my favorite, Stanford. All of this was very sad, the ending and all, although it was buffered somewhat by the news that there’s going to be a Sex and the City movie, penned by Michael Patrick King, who has written and directed some of the very best episodes. So at least we have that to look forward to.

Then I moved on to watching Starting Over, my ultimate guilty pleasure. Although it is so time consuming (an hour a day!) that once P.J. finishes “creating her new identity” I may have to give it up. We’ll see.

Next: American Idol finals show. Because I found out from previous entries that some of you are a few days behind I don’t want to give any spoilers. But I think I can say that nobody I really liked or was rooting for from this group got to go on. (Do with that what you will.)

Finally, I watched the O.C., just because I do really like the Seth and Summer storyline. (The Marisa thing I could do without: I just want that girl to eat something. Please! I’m worried about her.) The high point of the show for me, though, was that they had a Squirrel Nut Zippers song playing during that charity gala, Anything But Love, and I love the Zippers. The lead singer, Katherine Whalen, used to work at the Burrito with me, about a million years ago. Adding to the North Carolina cache: that was a Ryan Adams song at the end, proving that yes, there WAS a great NC music scene, even before Raleigh’s own Clay Aiken.

And there you have it. A full evening spent (or wasted, depending on how you look at it). Now, I’m going outside to enjoy the first nice day in as long as I can remember. Finally!

have a good day everyone…
