Happy Friday. And in honor of surviving a long (and somewhat stressful, snifflly) week, I bring you: The Friday Five , brought to my attention by my cousin Ben:

If you…

1. …owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

I would love to own a place that served lots stuff, but in small portions, so you could order several things and not get stuffed: some mashed potatoes, some mac and cheese, maybe a tiny sandwich or two. Variety. That’s what I’m all about.

2. …owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?

I love to talk about movies so much, I’d love to own a DVD rental place. Plus when it was quiet I could watch movies.

3. …wrote a book, what genre would it be?

Hmmm. Young adult?

4. …ran a school, what would you teach?

Writing. I love teaching so much, and even on the bad days (and bad weeks, see above). It’s a great job.

5. …recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?

Oh, Lord, if I recorded an album we’d all be shrieking, hands over our ears. I cannot sing. Period. But if I COULD sing, I’d do old standards, like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. “Bewtiched, Bothered and Bewildered,” and such. But you really need to be able to sing, and sing well, to carry those off.

Speaking of music, I want to take a moment to honor the passing of J.J. Jackson, one of the original MTV VJs. I remember the when MTV began very well, I was eleven, and while J.J. wasn’t as cute as Martha Quinn (my all-time favorite) he still was part of a cultural revolution, and I have never forgotten him. Do you think we’ll all remember Quddus or Hillary 23 years from now? You have to wonder.

have a good day everyone!
