Well, after yesterday’s excitement—if you can even call it that—I’m just glad for a fresh start today. Even if it is cloudy and totally unspringlike. I am so sick of sweaters I could scream. Seriously.

On to better topics, like…books! Okay, so I’ve heard rumblings that Dar Williams (amazing singer songwriter, if you haven’t heard of her, you should) has a book coming out this summer. A YA book, no less. According to Amazon, it’s called “Untitled Dar Williams Novel,” which I am assuming is not the real title. (Unless she’s being ironic? Or petulant, as my students sometimes are when I demand they put a title on their short stories, even if it is Untitled?) I am assuming someone out there—as I know some folks in publishing, as well as a few librarians and booksellers read this now and then—-knows something. If you do, could you enlighten me? I would be MUCH appreciative.

In other book news, I’m just cooling my heels waiting for Thursday, when I read at the UNC bookstore. It’s the first time I’ve done a “debut” reading there (as they’re calling it) since usually my books come out in summer, i.e. when classes are over, so I always end up there in the fall instead. So this is exciting. And a little nervewracking, as first official readings often are. (I am still trying to figure out what, exactly to read…hmmmm.) But as I told a professor in my department yesterday, I’ve gone to the Bulls Head all my life, so it’s sort of like starting at home, with a hometown crowd, which is really nice. I’m looking forward to it.

Something I’m not sure I’m looking forward to, but am curious about anyway, is the fact that Britney Spears is now shopping a reality show. Hmmmm. This to me, seems a bit of a can’t-beat-em-join-em kind of deal. I mean, just a year ago, wasn’t Jessica Simpson a Britney wannabe? And now look at her, America’s Favorite Ditz (and I don’t feel bad saying that, as it is an image she totally cultivates.) And why? Because of that MTV show. But the thing about Jessica is that she doesn’t mind being seen as a bit of a joke. (If you need further proof, all you had to do was watch the Nick and Jessica Variety Hour thing the other night. Oh, the horror. It gave me, as Owen Meany would say, the shivers. For a recap, check out what Ryan had to say about it , as he does it much more justice than I could ever hope to.) Anyway, I’m interested to see how this Britney thing plays out. Pretty soon everyone will have a reality show. I mean, if William Hung can be a celebrity, anything’s possible, right?

have a good day everyone!
