Big day yesterday, still recovering. But the reading went really well, I think. I had a good turnout, and a lot of my students—current and former—-came, which is always really nice. It was like old home week: my parents were there, my mother-in-law, my husband, a girl I used to babysit, several of my coworkers…the list goes on and on. A great way to start promoting the book, at any rate. I WAS nervous, though, at least at first. As soon as I got up there and started, though, I calmed down. Now I do the Literary Festival on Sunday, and then have a few weeks before anything else comes up, and then May will be ca-razy. I’ll be putting up my tour dates on the website this weekend, so I’ll let you all know when that’s done.

After the reading, we went out for a drink, then came home to watch American Idol, the results of which, I have to say, were surprising. (SPOILER ALERT! Don’t read on unless you want to know who got cut!) So John Peter Paul Mary (as I liked to call him), is gone. Maybe two Elvis songs was one too many? Maybe it was height issue? Maybe a backlash from all the younger fans, who are mad that Simon thinks John Stevens and Diana and Jasmine are too young to be on the show? Oh, who knows. And why do I care? Personally, I think it’s going to come down to LaToya and Fantasia. But between the two of them…it’s hard to say. Could be interesting.

In other news, this morning, I was awoken at around 7am by the sound of a big truck rumbling up the driveway. My husband had ordered dirt. Yes, dirt. See, we don’t have good dirt here—there’s a lot of clay in it, and stuff just doesn’t grow that well—so if you want to have a nice garden, you got to bring in the nice dirt. So as I sit typing this, I’m looking out at this huge mound of black dirt just outside my window. I have this strange compulsion to go jump in it. (Not that I’m going to, of course, but it’s just this weird urge.) I guess we’ll be doing some shovelling this weekend. Oh, well. Like they say, dirt can’t hurt.

On a final note, I’m going to just totally expose myself as a loser by commenting yet AGAIN on Britney Spears (for those of you keeping score at home, that’s two mentions in three days). But yesterday, during a bout of procrastination, I watched her new video on AOL and I have to say…..Hmmmmm. A bit disturbing, isn’t it? First, I think she looks very Courtney Love-esque (long scraggly blonde hair, baby-doll dress, really pale) and the ending is a bit shocking, or maybe I’m just easily shocked. Comments? Reactions? I’m wondering if anyone else thought it was weird, or if it’s just me. Maybe I’m weird. Which is entirely possible. I mean, just look at the dirt thing.

have a good day everyone!
