So it’s supposed to be in the mid-nineties today, with a heat index above 100. Which leads me to question why, exactly, when I was in Cape Cod, was I complaining about the few cool days we had, when I actually had to wear layers?

And now, a clarification from yesterday: I don’t think Pamela Anderson is a ditz. I just questioned whether she actually wrote her book, and in some interviews I’ve read since, she admits that she had a ghostwriter, which, while common for memoirs, doesn’t happen all that often for novels. She also says that with her Jane column (which I read, and love) she often just sends what’s on her mind and they fix all the spelling and grammar and all that stuff and form it into a colum. I saw her on TRL yesterday, and I’ve always liked her, and I’m looking forward to reading her book. I was just making a distinction between her writing and, say, that of John Irving or Alice Sebold. It’s different. And that’s okay. Right? Right.

(Don’t even get me started on how much I used to watch Baywatch during the C.J./Caroline/Stephanie years. You don’t even WANT to know. And I’m not sure I really want to tell you.)

I can’t believe it’s already August, and that I have about three weeks before classes begin. Amazing. How does the summer go so fast? And what can I do to stretch it out and enjoy it? On campus yesterday, everything was so quiet. I went to the Student Stores to pick up some supplies and just walked the aisles, losing myself in the stacks of notebooks and Carolina Week by Weeks (those who know, know), all the rows of pens and index cards. I’m such a school supply nerd, I swear, that a part of me was actually excited to be buying new Post-Its and a new calendar and all the other stuff I got, while the rest was in total denial, wanting to just stop time and savor summer that much more. Before we know it, it’ll be cooler, and we’ll all be wearing sweaters and discussing our Halloween costumes. It happens fast, people!

So maybe I should go out and soak up that heat index today. Sweat a bit for prosperity, or something. It’s a thought. Although that might be a bit extreme…..

have a good day everyone!
